This is a multi-day series of photos for the Best of 2011 in Matt Mason Photography. Categories will include, The Bride, The Shoes, The guys, The Girls and many more. If you don’t see your wedding a particular category please understand that this isn’t an indication of how much I like a couple. I have amazing and wonderful clients.
Kristen LeBlanc & Jim Vandelogt were married at Holy Family Catholic Church in Inverness, IL. The reception was at Biltmoore Country Club in North Barrington, IL.
Kristen & Jim got the only real December snow the night before their wedding which made for a most beautiful backdrop for the photo session before the ceremony. After Jim and his two dogs chased all the geese off the fairway the couple met up for their first look on a bridge on the Biltmore Country Club grounds which is right out the back door of Jim's Dad's home. (Click here to see all the photos from the day.)
The wedding party joined us on the bridge to start taking photos. Oh, one of the highlights for me was the shotgun photos.
Every year Grand Geneva hosts a big party for their members. This year the theme was The Academy Awards. Members arrived to a red carpet and Paparazzi snapping photos. They were treated an elegant meal, live entertainment and awards were handed out.
Mark & Gretch Productions provided the musical entertainment complete with a full stage and amazing uplighting and Christmas decorations made for a magical evening. Here is a link to the photos we provided as the Paparazzi in addition to our photobooth. It was an honor to serve at this fun and well produced event.
During our annual Christmas Party and annual report Matt Mason Photography took this photo of our team. While we had a couple of guys missing it was still fun to force ourselves to do what we often ask our clients to do. Take a look...
Kristen and Jim and I all met up at the Westosha Airport near the town of Wilmot, WI. It was a fabulous day and one of my favorite engagement sessions ever! You see Jim is a pilot and we agreed it would be fun to shoot with one of the small aircraft he is able to fly. What an incredible experience. While it was a bit warm the skies were breathtaking. We had fun shooting some modelesque photos with the planes and then we headed onto the tarmac which was my favorite spot! Then we had wild flowers in a field. An old shed and they had their Yellow Lab! Take a look at the photos. Here is the link: Westosha Airport Engagement Photos.
Laura Cannon and Kyle Alexander were married at Veteran's Terrace in Burlington, WI. The images in this gallery were captured around Burlington including Echo Park, the train depot and a cool pedestrian bridge. Burlington has so much to offer. The sunset on Echo Park was astounding. Jen & Brian were married in Delavan, WI at St. Andrews Catholic Church. Photos followed in Williams Bay and Yerkes Observatory. The reception was at The Abbey Resort in Fontana, WI. Below are some samples of my favorite images from this wedding. If you would like to view the entire gallery you can follow this link...Wedding reception at The Abbey Resort.
These are some samples of fireworks shot on July 3, 2011 at Grand Geneva and July 4, 2011 at the Fontana Public beach. I used a tripod, ISO 50, Sutter Bulb, Aperture f11-f13 and a towel to add multiple exposures in the same frame. Edited in Photoshop CS5.

One of my favorite weddings. Well I love so many I can't really pick a favorite. Here are the features that make a wedding like this one so fun.
- Unique...I love it when the bride chooses themes that are different. Jenny chose pink to honor Breast Cancer Awareness.
- First Look...I love the first look because it is romantic and take so much pressure off the day and allows me to shoot many more photos for the happy couple.
- Deep colored skies.
- Energetic bridal party. When the bridal party is wild and crazy they tend to be more open to suggestions. This often leads to new and fresh poses and photo journalistic moments.
- Great music choices for the ceremony and reception. I really dug the music at Jenny and Justin wedding.
- Time. When we have time, especially with the couple, to shoot, we are able to create beautiful and dramatic imagery.
- Weather. We can't control the weather but when it is in the 70s, even when it is kind of humid, it really helps not to worry about losing the wedding party over the cold or heat.
